| Grooming The Curly Coated Retriever is a very low maintenance breed. They do not need to be brushed, instead only requiring a minor trim around their ears and tails a couple of times a year. |

| History The Curly Coated Retriever can be traced back positively to 1803. It is thought that Newfoundlands were used in the development of the Curly Coated Retriever, which contributes to their love of water and swimming. The Newfoundland in the ancestry is not the Newfoundland we know today but a dog know as the St Johns Newfoundland. There is believed to be a fair dash of Water Spaniel in there too, though no one truly knows the breeding of the original Curly Coated Retriever. |

| Positives Curly Coated Retrievers are very intelligent dogs, and can be trained for a variety of tasks - not just retrieving. They are very energetic and love to play. Additionally they are loyal dogs who do NOT have a tendency to bark. They are protective of their owners and property but are not inclined to bite. |

| Negatives Curly Coated Retrievers may suffer from Hip Dysplasia, Patterned Baldness and PRA (Progressive Retinal Atrophy). Therefore any intending purchaser should buy from a registered breeder who has screened their dogs for these diseases. |
